"The Soft Gold of Chinese Silk"
Soft Gold
Six Hundred Years of Living Craftsmanship
Xiangyunsha 100% Silk, anciently called "Xiangyunsha", was named for the light rustling sound the fabric makes when walking. Originating from Shunde, Guangdong, it was exported overseas in large quantities during the Ming Dynasty's Yongle period, reached its peak in the late Qing and early Republic periods, and has been an exclusive luxury fabric for royalty, nobility, and wealthy merchants since ancient times.
Its name translates as "the rustle of clouds" a reference to the soft, whispering sound the fabric makes with every step. For centuries it was worn only by those who could afford to wait: new Xiangyunsha 100% Silk was first given to servants to break in, then reclaimed by its owners once it had softened.
Today, Xiangyunsha 100% Silk is the only remaining silk category in China made with pure botanical dye technology, and can only be produced in specific watersheds of the Pearl River Delta because the iron-rich river mud required for the process exists nowhere else in the world.
Xiangyunsha 100% Silk is the world's only silk dyed purely with botanical pigments, sealed with iron-rich river mud, and cured under open sky a process Japan attempted to replicate in the 1990s and failed.
